Exploring the Magical World of Fairies and Toadstools: A Week of Adventure at Sunny Days Nursery and Forest School

This week, we embarked on a magical journey into the world of fairies and toadstools, and it’s safe to say the children had a fantastic time, despite the wet weather!

We kicked off the week by creating colourful toadstools for our Gruffalo display. The children used their fingers to paint the white spots on the toadstools, exploring the textures and colours in a fun, hands-on way. For some children, this fine motor activity can be quite challenging, so it was wonderful to see everyone enthusiastically giving it a try. The results were as lovely as the process itself.

Our adventures continued as we experimented with mark-making in magical fairy dust. The older children worked on forming letters from their names, while the younger ones enjoyed making intentional marks. It was a fantastic opportunity for self-expression, as they began to understand the meaning behind their creations.

A Magical Forest School Experience

Forest school this week was full of fairy magic! The children crafted fairy potions using petals and leaves they collected, letting their imaginations guide them. We also made fairy wands from sticks found in the woods, which sparked lots of creativity and storytelling. While exploring the woods, we took a closer look at the fascinating fungi growing around us, learning how nature provides shelter and beauty, even in the rain. And despite the weather, we ended our woodland adventure by making fairies and fairy houses—an activity that brought out smiles all around.

Scaling the Climbing Tree

Another highlight of the week was our visit to the climbing tree in our forest at Brook. This activity is always a favourite, as it challenges the children’s strength, balance, and coordination. Watching them scale the branches with growing confidence and excitement is such a joy! It’s not just about physical skills—this activity also helps them build resilience, independence, and teamwork as they help each other climb. The climbing tree is a wonderful reminder of the benefits of outdoor play, allowing the children to connect with nature and push their own boundaries.
